Hisab Kitab · Made in India
Trip expense splitter for friends who travel in INR
Log every expense as it happens. Hisab Kitab tracks who paid what, who owes whom, and shows the minimum UPI transfers needed to settle up at the end.
The problem
- •At the end of the trip, nobody remembers if you paid for the first dinner or the Airbnb.
- •One friend fronts the cab, another the activities — reconciliation at airport pickup is painful.
- •WhatsApp group tries to track it, fails by day 3.
- •Google Pay transactions scattered — no single place to see the total.
What you get
One group per trip
"Goa Dec 2026". Members, categories, expenses — all in one place.
Every split mode free
Equal for breakfast, unequal for the Scuba package only 3 did, exact for the room upgrade.
Simplify debts at the end
Instead of 7 criss-cross UPI transfers, see the 3 minimum transfers that settle everyone.
Works offline in flight / mountains
PWA caches locally. Add expenses on the plane; they sync when you land.
Receipts for memory lane
Attach a photo of the hotel bill or the dinner receipt — nice when you look back a year later.
INR-first with UPI settle
Transferring money between friends? One tap opens UPI with the exact amount.
How it works
- 1Create a trip group
Add every friend. Set the trip emoji 🏖️ and the group's primary currency (INR).
- 2Log as you go
Phone out → tap + → amount, who paid, who's in on this one. 10 seconds per expense.
- 3Day-end summary
A one-line "Today: ₹X spent, you owe ₹Y, Rohan owes ₹Z" at the top of your dashboard.
- 4Simplify + UPI settle
Last day → open the group → Simplify debts → tap each row, UPI deep-link opens, done.
FAQs
What if we spend in foreign currency?
Hisab Kitab is INR-only today. For a mixed trip (Thailand with INR friends), convert to INR at the time of the expense using your card's rate. Multi-currency is on our roadmap.
One friend didn't do an activity — how to exclude them?
Use "Unequal" or "Exact" split mode for that specific expense; set their share to 0.
What if someone is not on the app?
Add them by phone and the invite link goes via WhatsApp. They can accept and see shared history, or you can keep tracking them as a placeholder and settle in person later.
How does "Simplify debts" actually work?
A classic min-cash-flow algorithm. If A paid ₹500 for everyone, B owes A ₹167, C owes A ₹167, D owes A ₹167 — but D also paid for lunch and A owes D ₹100 — Simplify computes: C → A ₹167, B → A ₹167, A → D ₹100. Three transfers instead of six.
